The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 第一次看PTA，颁奖季中居然还有这股子“清流”。安德森是怎样把一个狗血剧情拍的那么“文艺”～相差十岁的“姐弟”恋人分分合合的关系，就像片中那辆没油的卡车沿着曲曲折折的公路倒退一样，好在最后成功的“加上油”。十五岁还未成年的格雷在片中所做的超出他年龄范围的事情真的让我大吃一惊，美国孩子都已经这么胆大创业了吗？而处在人生岔路口二十五岁的阿拉娜则对未来产生迷茫彷徨的状态之中，两人相遇所发生的事情这个事件本身就很有吸引，安德森惯有的加入类似调戏情色的元素，散漫琐碎的的叙事设置，格雷突然被捕、莫名的监视等等一切都不需要理由，这便是年轻人在生活中所做出的态度——自由。多处的互相奔赴的两人在镜头上很美，最后的镜头也美，介绍演员跟昨天的《公民凯恩》一样的方式，我喜欢，因为这样我可以认出谁谁谁。
好像是昆汀的《好莱坞往事》和布拉纳的《贝尔法斯特》的结合。第一次看PTA的片子，还是和近两年奥斯卡一票电影一样的特点，就是很私人化。男女主以及经历的各种事件都是导演对于周边人经历的一个总结，所以影片的观感又一次割裂了，像一段一段的小品。好在对于那个年代的还原挺够味儿的，跟《贝尔法斯特》不相上下，也对于那段时代共情不起来，不过黑胶（甘草）唱片（披萨）yyds
7.0 怀旧电影，散漫冗长，最不喜欢的一部PTA。典型的反好莱坞古典叙事，运镜风格独特。
PTA观影门槛真高，看的过程是比较轻松愉快，但可能是我水平不高，看不出更多的妙处。女主的一些服装搭配有亮点。日剧跑什么的，我竟然都没在意

4.5 清新复古，色调音乐观感很舒服，演员大多是导演的亲人朋友，pta也许就没想着靠这片收获什么，单纯的为年少和家乡写的一封“情书”。
镜头的流动感太舒服了。听听复古小曲，感受扑面而来的青春活力，that's all.
一天看下来n部颁奖季电影，看得脑瓜子嗡嗡的，直到看到PTA才开始享受起来，拍的竟然是那么流畅、避重就轻，果然有才华是可以为所欲为的。
年少的你遇到生命中的那个她，她却比你年长几岁并笑你的稚气未脱。你使出浑身解数来启动无数的商业点子来证明自己的成熟，但间隙中还是透露出你孩子气的一面。她回归到自己认为成熟的生活，当回想起不顾一切狂奔的日子，嗯，或许这才是爱吧。
你想再现那个时候吗，你我都是普通人，有点胖还有点蠢，满怀着矛盾与不服气，莫名其妙的自尊心和别扭，说不出口的喜欢和搞不懂的说话与做事，还有到处都在的躁动和欲望，不想懂，也没必要懂，随波逐流，湮灭于此，泯然众人。

为什么这么多人爱装逼还爱看别人装逼？就喜欢这种纯粹的片子，当PTA不装逼时我反而能搞清他的套路了，他的特点就是所有情节的转变都是不合时宜且突兀的，就像他老家的A片一样，不过换个思路就是你根本不需要纠结剧情为什么这么转变，跟着他思路走就行了。这个问题在他别的片子里就显得装逼又做作，因为他总给人一种我要讲牛逼东西的感觉(不知道为什么那么多人喜欢)，而在这个片子里反倒让我没那么反感(又不知道为什么这么多人看不上)，甚至让我很喜欢。人呐，回归本我才是对自己最大的尊重，拍自己故事的人才是最伟大的，就像索伦蒂诺的《上帝之手》，我不懂什么叫“眼界缩小”，看不起自己？
