The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 虽然女主童年的遭遇导致不懂什么是爱，但还是替男主愤愤不平，看到结局大圆满的时刻，却仍是一种愤愤心情，恕我暂时还做不到。
颜值演技真的可以了/终于不是霸道总裁，农场主很棒啊！人设性格和对爱情的理解都值得9分。自救那段独白真是把我感动哭了。这种力量源于内心的good will。男主向上帝祈祷想要一个能与他分享人生的人。可太多人希望找一个人是来爱自己的了。最后上帝治不孕真的让我哭中带笑。
前两天看了类似的平凡岁月的魅力，同样的上帝的指引，类似的关系，那一部哭的稀里哗啦，这一部演员可能太年轻了，感觉硬凑的……
以前都是看科幻警匪片，第一次看这种美国电影，老实说按咱们这边的爱情观来看这电影，属实有点大开眼界，叹服美国性观念的确开放！劝妓从良娶回家又逃出去卖，路上还给妹夫口，男主却依然如初把女主带回来，几人生活在一个农场不尴尬么...最离谱就是流产导致没有生育能力的女主，结尾愣是又给怀上了。但如果站在全片主线讲述女主复仇，男女主爱情为辅的角度来看，就说的通为何三番两次为何逃跑了：复仇一：幼时女主和母亲被父亲抛弃失去经济来源，母亲靠出卖肉体为生，母亲病死后，女主被人卖到妓院豢养接客，长大后遇见生父，与生父发生关系，生父饮弹自尽。复仇2：女主有2个妓院好友被火烧死，于是就下定决心找侯爵报仇，带着这种复仇为主线，爱情为辅的角度来看这片，就说得通三番二次逃跑了...可惜并不是这样拍摄的...
