The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 好哭不等于质优，但汹涌的真情让故事的动人量级无限拔升。我深信无数背负心债的儿女被李焕英震碎了泪水阀门包括我，哭的不是母亲大爱也不是时光逆流，梦可补圆，而是有这么一次释放来填充现实对母亲的亏欠，对本我的埋怨。裂痕终无法缝补，矛盾也无法被偿还，我们心里都知道。这不妨碍冷酷的我们偶尔被染一点点温情之色。就这么一次也好。

打三分纯粹是道德绑架，都有妈，颂扬母亲主题下，谁也不敢低分……
胜在真情实感。电影本身在情节推进、逻辑处理上是有瑕疵的，但对大众而言，影片的感染力与观影时的共鸣感是直接而强劲的。饱满的情感比叙事的技巧更易打动人。
没想到这部电影的余韵会这么长，看完一阵了，脑袋里还会回味一些情节，感慨当下与那个时代那么遥远又那么相似…
贾晓玲说她会看相，她看到李焕英未来的女儿会出国留学，而且收入很高。
整体美术风格完整，舞台效果巧妙的重现时代交错更迭，加上四川话的灵动，如果旧的故事能有新突破就更好了，3个小时略长。

真以为最后二十分钟会很感人，结果强行煽情，前面也就沈腾的场面比较好笑吧。好像没啥主线，结局反转算不算的上高级不知道，但贾玲演技不如张小斐倒是真的

#电影院# 跟《乘风破浪》《新难兄难弟》都是《回到未来》的徒子徒孙们。本来以为很有把握老妈会喜欢这类温情题材，结果她觉得不好看且回家后我俩就为鸡毛蒜皮的事大吵一架😩真是幸福的家庭各有各的幸福，不幸的家庭也各有各的烦恼啊。在看电影时涌现的各种立志要为家人争气争光的情绪出来后就烟消云散，本来以为这部电影会让我们母女感情好点儿不过这才是真實的人生不可能通过一两部电影就可以改变的
A new old play 非常不错，拍摄手法和画面都很棒，全剧四川话也让我感觉十分亲切。每一个转折点都是一首判词来揭晓，新又新。很久没看华语片了，很惊喜。唯一觉得不足的是，太长了。
中规中矩的喜剧片，带有温情的旋律，没有像网上说的那么好。
笼统的看下豆瓣评分就去看了，真的很失望，感觉评分是刷的，不值票价和时间，贾玲值得尊敬，母爱更值得赞扬，但这种形式，就像小学的感恩大会，有一个人拼命的在台上讲，拿出各种故事拼命的渲染，好像不感动不哭就是不合适宜。
没有刻意的笑点，没有刻意的煽情，淳朴自然。最后的反转锦上添花！我哭的一塌糊涂😭😭😭😭 好喜欢贾玲张小斐！我宝！

值得一看，但没有你想象中那么好看，尤其是当你带着豆瓣8点多高分期待去看！都说哭的稀里哗啦，但我确实没有哭……
长达三个小时，以上世纪20年代的中国为背景，通过一个川剧团的丑角丘福的命运变迁，展现了半个多世纪的中国历史。
