The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 从一开始就是孤立无援的状态，异国他乡语言不通，到典型的女性困境“我觉得你想多了”、女性互相相信、和受害者有罪论。很典型的片子。几处视听处理都很好，但有点点拖并且结尾拉了

前面需要那么冗长的各种心理活动来做铺垫？？很无聊，昏昏欲睡
取于现实却给予反杀。绝大多数时候下落不明的是凶手，隐藏的是施暴者，被一览无遗的是受害者。“A man tried to kill me”
这种布景的片子看了好几部了 有一个疑问 搬进新家装窗帘难道不是最基本的操作吗~_~’ (还有个略剧透的忍不住想说 - 如果最后对着傻大个老公也来一枪 我会给四星)
语言不通带来的疏离和孤独感萦绕全片。大约也是正因此才看到了大家所看不到的。女人虽然敏感多疑，男人啊，老婆的话要听进去，要当真啊。

女主在要遭到追踪者的杀害时反戈一击。/陪同男友在异国生活的女主，语言不通，陷入危险境地，本质上还是男友的不重视。
很精致的一部惊悚片，但应该女性更能理解这其中的惊悚元素吧…
女孩子要好好保护自己啊。

有点闷，但很有氛围感，又给zz脆弱的小心灵造成了伤害XD
最近貌似监视的电影比较多，女主都是发现者，但男主不以为然，最后女主成为受害者。本片亦然，最后行凶者被隔音墙给揭露了，但是女主能给行凶者两枪有点反转太快。还以为常规结局是男主抓住行凶者或者对面女孩报警呢。
如果不是有俩眼熟的演员，我估计会以为这是什么洗钱作品。

竟然还玩反转，开放式岂不更好？男配绝了，一查发现我居然还看过他演的片儿……我这脸盲没救了
那个老公真是又蠢又窝囊，最后一幕还没反应过来，像个傻子似的在那杵着，摊上这么个玩意真是够呛！
爱人之间的信任，如果遇到不好的事情请及时沟通，不要猜疑。。不过女主成功自救，相当神奇，有点烂尾了，对面小女孩看到这一幕为什么这么淡定，这个有点多余了。另外女性的弱势地位请多予以关注
